Maternity leave/ baja de Maternidad

Why is maternity leave different in different countries even within Europe? How can people see in each country that a baby’s needs are different?

I move in a country where we are given Just 4 months maternity paid leave, therefore when the baby is four months they are then expected to be able to be without their mother all day (many babies are still breastfeeding at this time!).

In Spain supposedly children are very accepted and wanted, however 4 months leave seems so little to me. In the U.K the maternity leave is longer and then in countries such as Norway they get to spend lots of time off with their little ones.

I’m lucky that I have a months holiday added on to my leave and then 3 weeks breastfeeding time almost otherwise I would be back to work and leaving him next week and he is not even eating yet!
